How to Protect Yourself from Bird Flu
At the moment Bird Flu or H5N1 Influenza is normally only caught
by handling live or dead infected wild or captive birds. There is
a possibility it will mutate into another form that can be spread
between humans - and even worse by aerosol (i.e sneezing rather
than contact).
Whilst avian flu is in it's current form the best advice is -
- Avoid contact with un-cooked poultry and wild birds.
- Wash you hands or steralise them after handling any poultry/dead
bird
- Wash your hands before preparing food
What if bird flu mutates
If bird flu mutates so it can be passed between humans then the advice
will change as follows
- Avoid confined public places with large numbers of people
- Hospitals and doctors surgeries are best avoided unless you
are seriousely ill
- Avoid anyone who appears to be ill with flu like symptoms
- Maintain rigerous personal hygeine
- If there is a major outbreak then cover the mouth and nose to
reduce spread of infection
